What Is the Brimfield Estate?

Brimfield Estate isn’t your typical wedding venue—and that’s one of the things we love most about it.

The property is a private luxury estate in Brimfield, Massachusetts, near Sturbridge. The historic mansion sits on about 60 acres with gardens, fields, private trails, a pond, pool complex, tennis courts, patios, fire pits, and plenty of outdoor space.

The home has five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms and sleeps up to 14 guests. There’s also a beautiful full floor that works incredibly well as a bridal suite, complete with an enormous balcony.

And one detail we know matters to a lot of couples: it’s dog-friendly!

Instead of arriving at a traditional wedding venue for a few hours on Saturday, you get to settle in and make the estate feel like your own private mansion for the weekend.

What Are Brimfield Estate Weddings Like?

One of our favorite things about Brimfield Estate weddings is that each part of the wedding day can happen in a completely different area of the property. From getting ready in the mansion to an after-party downstairs, you can create a full wedding-day experience without ever leaving the estate.

Getting Ready at Brimfield Estate

Getting ready happens right inside the beautiful historic mansion. There’s an incredible bridal suite with plenty of room to spend the morning with your wedding party, plus a large balcony that makes the space feel even more special.

Wedding Portraits at Brimfield Estate

There are so many photo locations without ever leaving the property. The mansion and balcony are beautiful for portraits, along with the gardens, fields, pool area, and grounds surrounding the estate. We especially love the garden for first looks and couple portraits.

Ceremony

Ceremonies are typically held near the Lion Garden at the front of the mansion, surrounded by the estate and beautiful landscaping.

Cocktail Hour

Cocktail hour is typically held by the pool, which has a fountain and beautiful landscaping. There’s also a cute pool house that works perfectly as a bar area. This might be one of our favorite cocktail-hour locations!

Reception

Receptions are typically held under a tent on the estate’s turf event field. We’ve installed sailcloth, canopy, white-top frame, and clear-top frame tents for Brimfield Estate weddings, with the largest tent we’ve installed being a 40′ x 100′.

Because the reception area is turf, tent installation requires some additional planning. Depending on the tent size and style, we may need to use a frame tent with ballast rather than staking into the turf.

After-Party

For a smaller group, the Italian-themed space downstairs in the mansion has a full wet bar and can be a really fun place to keep the night going once the main reception ends.

How Many Guests Can Brimfield Estate Weddings Accommodate?

In our experience, Brimfield Estate works beautifully for everything from an intimate wedding to a celebration of approximately 180 guests.

There really isn’t one perfect guest count.

A smaller wedding can feel incredibly intimate on such a private property, while a larger wedding can take advantage of the different areas for the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and other wedding-weekend events.

Your guest count will ultimately affect your tent size and layout, so we recommend having at least a general estimate before you begin planning your rental package.

What Rentals Do You Need for a Brimfield Estate Wedding?

This is one of the most important things to understand when considering Brimfield Estate as your wedding venue:

You’re essentially building your wedding from the ground up.

The estate gives you an incredible property and overnight accommodations, but it isn’t a traditional wedding venue with tables, chairs, catering equipment, and event infrastructure already onsite.

That’s what gives couples so much freedom to make the wedding their own—but it also means you’ll need to bring everything in.

Baystate Tent & Party typically provides most or all of the rental package for the Brimfield Estate weddings we work on, including:

• Reception tent
• Catering tent
• Dance floor
• Tables
• Chairs
• Ceremony chairs
• Bars
• Linens
• Tent lighting

You’ll also need a restroom trailer, and your caterer will typically handle items such as china and glassware.

There’s a vendor parking area adjacent to the main tent and cocktail-hour spaces where we typically install the catering tent and restroom trailer. It keeps the behind-the-scenes infrastructure close enough to be convenient for vendors without putting it in the middle of the guest experience.

What Is the Rain Plan for a Brimfield Estate Wedding?

A good rain plan is especially important for a property wedding, and one of the biggest advantages of Brimfield Estate is that there’s plenty of space to create one.

If rain is expected, the ceremony area can be tented. Cocktail hour can then take place under the reception tent or within the covered ceremony area, depending on your setup and plans for the day.

Your rain plan doesn’t have to mean cramming every part of the wedding into one space.

We always recommend talking through your backup plan early so you know exactly what will happen if the forecast changes.

Can You Host a Welcome Party at Brimfield Estate?

Absolutely—and we think this is one of the best reasons to choose this property.

Welcome parties can be hosted on the upper grass area or near the Lion Garden, allowing you to use another part of the estate without taking away from the spaces guests will experience on the wedding day.

And there’s plenty to do throughout the weekend. The property includes a pool, fire pits, lawn games, trails, a pond, tennis courts, and other outdoor amenities.

So instead of thinking about Brimfield Estate as somewhere you go for a Saturday wedding, think of it as your wedding-weekend home base.

Welcome party Friday. Wedding Saturday. Coffee by the pool Sunday morning.

Where Do Guests Stay for a Brimfield Estate Wedding?

The mansion itself sleeps up to 14 guests, making it a great option for the couple, wedding party, immediate family, or a combination of your closest people.

For everyone else, there are hotels nearby in the Sturbridge area.

The estate also has a huge amount of parking available in its field. Even with ample onsite parking, many of the couples we’ve worked with provide shuttle transportation from the Sturbridge hotels so guests don’t have to worry about driving at the end of the night.

Do You Need a Wedding Planner for Brimfield Estate?

We highly recommend hiring a wedding planner or coordinator for a Brimfield Estate wedding.

Remember: you’re essentially creating a wedding venue for the weekend.

You’ll be coordinating your tent and rentals, caterer, restroom trailer, florist, entertainment, transportation, layouts, timelines, deliveries, setup, and all of the other pieces that go into building an event from the ground up.

The freedom is one of the best parts of getting married here—but that freedom also comes with logistics.

How Long Should You Rent Brimfield Estate for a Wedding?

If you’re planning a wedding here, we recommend renting Brimfield Estate from at least Thursday through Sunday.

Give yourself time to enjoy it!

Arriving Thursday gives you time to settle in and allows your rental companies and other vendors time to begin transforming the property without everything happening the day before the wedding.

Then you have Friday for your rehearsal, rehearsal dinner or welcome party, Saturday for the wedding, and Sunday morning to enjoy the estate before everyone heads home.

You’re renting an incredible property. Make the weekend part of the experience.

Why We Love Brimfield Estate Weddings

Brimfield Estate is a little hard to describe until you’ve actually been there.

It isn’t a traditional ballroom. It isn’t a barn. And it doesn’t feel like a traditional wedding venue.

It feels like you have your own private mansion for the weekend.

You can get ready upstairs, have your first look in the garden, get married near the Lion Garden, enjoy cocktails beside the pool, eat dinner and dance under a tent, and wake up the next morning in the same place.

We’ve also seen couples take the property in completely different design directions. We’ve worked on elegant weddings, more casual celebrations, sailcloth receptions, clear-top tents, different dance floors, and completely different layouts.

The property doesn’t force you into one particular wedding style.

And the photo opportunities are incredible. Between the historic mansion, gardens, pool, fields, balconies, and grounds, there are so many different places for portraits without ever leaving the estate.
